A portfolio-centered website for academic and advocacy work
For ZahraStardust.com, we built a portfolio-centered website to highlight Zahra’s academic and advocacy work.
Writing & Speaking Portfolios
Zahra’s “Writing” and “Speaking” pages consist of interactive portfolios. The portfolio items on each page can be filtered by category. For instance, the categories for the writing page include: opinion pieces, journal articles, book chapters, press, and PhD thesis. The categories for the speaking page include: guest lecture, conference, invited speaker, and panel.
As you can see from the two example images below, the portfolio filter is a user-friendly way for visitors to sort or narrow down Zahra’s portfolio items in order to find what interests them the most.
The portfolio items on the writing page either link to the respective writings on external sites or directly open a PDF file for the viewer to read/download. In contrast, the portfolio items on the speaking pages do not link anywhere, instead they simply act as a speaking list.
As the default styling for the portfolio did not allow for long titles or subtitles, we spent time styling the portfolio with extra CSS in order to ensure that the portfolio titles and subtitles were not cut off.
Podcast
Another important page is Zahra’s “Podcast” page. The content and design for this page is relatively simple and straight-forward.? Since no podcasts are being hosted directly on the website, the main concern is simply directing website visitors to different podcast platforms. We used each platform’s unique icon/logo, so that visitors will be able to easily recognise and navigate to their preferred platform.
Custom Built to Customer Needs
Zahra’s website is a good example of a Custom Gumboots package. The website needed a custom feature, in this case a portfolio, that was outside of our standard website package. We also spent additional hours adding, configuring, and styling the content to our client’s needs and specifications.
